National Ag Day and the Distribution Chain 

On March 21, 2017, the United States will celebrate the people responsible for feeding the world’s seven billion people with National Ag Day. We know the hard work that goes into getting food from the farm to your table—and we’re proud to say our tires can be found every step of the way—in the fields of the country’s 2.2. million farms, on the pavement beneath the nation's 3.5 million truckers, and everywhere in between.

Farm Tires for Spring Conditions 

With spring rapidly approaching, farmers across the United States are gearing up and preparing to re-enter their fields. Depending on the location and what type of crops the farm is growing, the equipment used and the needs of the crops vary. However, the challenges presented during the spring remain the same throughout much of the U.S., as spring brings wet fields and inconsistent weather—which means that farmers need to be mindful of the load and traction of their machines, avoid soil compaction, and be able to move quickly and cover lots of acres during windows of good weather. Below is a look at what will be happening on farms across the U.S. this spring and how our farm tires can help overcome the challenges presented by the season.

Radial vs. Bias Farm Tires

Farmers today have more options than ever when it comes time to select ag tires. One of the most common ways to differentiate the multitude of farm tires on the market is to divide them by their construction—bias ply or radial. Both bias and radial tires have their advantages, but radials stand apart as there are no real drawbacks to their use in farming applications. Keep reading to learn more about the features and benefits of both types of tires. 

Tires to Overcome Soil Compaction 

Recently we ran across this interesting article about some of the methods vegetable growers are using to minimize soil compaction in their fields. We spend a lot of time talking about soil compaction, but most of the time it’s in relation to commodity crops such as corn and soybeans in spite of the fact that the same negative consequences of soil compaction (limited rate of water flow, reduced aeration, and an inability for roots to penetrate the soil to name a few) can hinder yields for all types of growers, including vegetable growers. As the article circulated the office, we couldn’t help but think about how our farm tires are designed to help in all of these applications.

On a trip through the Midwest this past summer, we were fortunate to meet with a few of the people working with our Alliance 363 IF tire in the field and record their thoughts on what makes the Alliance 363 an excellent tire. The people we spoke with ranged from a Sales Manager and Field Engineer to a pair of corn and soybean farmers from Iowa to a custom applicator from Minnesota—and the praise this group gave the Alliance 363 IF is nearly as diverse as the group itself.
