Tires to Overcome Soil Compaction 

Recently we ran across this interesting article about some of the methods vegetable growers are using to minimize soil compaction in their fields. We spend a lot of time talking about soil compaction, but most of the time it’s in relation to commodity crops such as corn and soybeans in spite of the fact that the same negative consequences of soil compaction (limited rate of water flow, reduced aeration, and an inability for roots to penetrate the soil to name a few) can hinder yields for all types of growers, including vegetable growers. As the article circulated the office, we couldn’t help but think about how our farm tires are designed to help in all of these applications.

On a trip through the Midwest this past summer, we were fortunate to meet with a few of the people working with our Alliance 363 IF tire in the field and record their thoughts on what makes the Alliance 363 an excellent tire. The people we spoke with ranged from a Sales Manager and Field Engineer to a pair of corn and soybean farmers from Iowa to a custom applicator from Minnesota—and the praise this group gave the Alliance 363 IF is nearly as diverse as the group itself.

Soil Compaction and a Devastating Disease Affecting Soybeans

One of the hardest decisions facing today’s farmers is deciding when to do what is right for the farm of today, and when to do what is right for the farm of the future. With a wet fall this year, many farmers have had to make hard decisions about getting into the fields and harvesting this year’s crop, while taking into consideration the impact bringing their machines into wet fields will have on next season's harvest.

Farmers are particular about their tires - and we don’t blame them. Nobody wants to suffer from unnecessary slowdowns due to flats, or to wait around while they change from floats to row-crop tires and back.
