On March 15, the Agriculture Council of America will celebrate its 43rd National Ag Day— an event recognizing agriculture's vital role in the daily lives of all Americans. Now in its fifth decade, National Ag Day helps raise awareness about where and how food is produced in the U.S. and the crucial role agriculture plays in the economy by providing us with an abundance of safe and affordable products. It also helps foster our AG economy by promoting career opportunities in farming.

Infrastructure Opportunities for Construction Companies

Much of the U.S. interstate highway system was built in the 1950s and 1960s and designed to last for about 50 years—which means that a lot of our roads are due for repair or replacement. However, when compared to other first world countries, the U.S. has spent comparatively little of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on roads. In recent years, federal, state, and local governments have all cut their spending on infrastructure and now have to make up for lost ground. According to the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE), an estimated $1.7 trillion will need to be spent to improve the country’s surface transportation.

Driven by advances in strong, flexible, more fireproof engineered wood products and encouraged by new thinking about building codes, wood has been gaining new life as a building material over the last five years. Today, 17 wood buildings are being built worldwide between 7 and 15 stories tall—and a record-setting 35-story wood building is in the planning stages in Paris.

We Love Chore Tractors 

Today’s big, modern farms are supported by all sorts of high-tech equipment to optimize their efficiency. High-horsepower tractors, super-efficient combines, fast spreaders, high-tech planters, and grain buggies have all helped to increase the productivity of today’s farms. In fact, a single U.S farmer today feeds 155 people worldwide, compared to just 25.8 people in 1960.

While many of these high-tech tools are thrust into the agricultural limelight, the quiet hero of the farm is the everyday chore tractor. While the chore tractor might not serve the most urgent and high-profile jobs around the farm, it helps keep the farm moving by helping with the litany of daily tasks facing a farmer.

Alliance Tire Americas (ATA) announced the opening of its fifth North American warehouse today in Bolingbrook, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. The 80,000-square-foot facility puts hundreds of OTR tires from Alliance, Galaxy and Primex—as well as Aeolus truck tires, for which Alliance serves as sole U.S. representative—within one or two day delivery to 90 percent of the U.S. and the majority of the Canadian tire market.
