Wheat Harvest 2016

It's hard to believe that another wheat harvest is coming to an end. For the past few weeks, many of you have probably spent more time on and in your tractors, combines, and trucks than anywhere else. While harvest days are long and busy, we love that so many farmers are willing to stop for a minute to take in the beauty of the farm and fields, and we're grateful that many of you share that moment with the world on places like Twitter. As we head toward the conclusion of July, we also end another busy month on our social media channels. As we head toward the beginning of August, farmers from all over the Midwest are getting excited for IDEAg Minnesota Farmfest, the state’s largest outdoor farm show, and the nation's third-largest outdoor farm show. Taking place on August 2nd-4th in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Farmfest has been running for over 30 years and has become a Midwest tradition. A summer staple, Minnesota Farmfest is the place to be for farmers looking to listen to captivating speakers, engage in political discussions, meet vendors, and network with fellow farmers.

How We Can Help Prevent Huge Forest Fires

As the summer progresses and the dry season comes upon us, the likelihood of forest fires significantly increases. While wildfires have always been an issue during the dry season, the combination of climate change, drought, and insects has not only increased the occurrence of forest fires and extended their season, but also has grown the size, damage inflicted, and cost of fighting them. Whether it’s lower snowpacks, drier springs, longer summers, or disease and damage, the forest’s trees are dying, and those dead trees present the perfect tinder for forest fires.

Despite using the best engineering and materials, however, even our long-lasting tires will need to be put out to pasture. But just because a tire is no longer useful on your tractor, combine, or spreader doesn’t mean that it can't still provide valuable service.

The internet is full of crafty ways to "upcycle" old tires into useful items around the house and garden - In fact we posted a blog last year about an artist who uses old tires in his monstrous creations. While it's fun to play, some folks will nevertheless want to keep their tires hard at work on the farm rather than in the landfill or tire dump.
