Capable of loads of up to 37,500 pounds (17,000 kg) at 15 mph and rated for speeds up to 21.7 mph (35 kph), the larger version of the RR42 is built for the new class of straddle carriers that are increasing container handling efficiency. ![RR42 Straddle Carrier](https://yohta-blog.yokohama-oht.com/hs-fs/hubfs/RR42%20Straddle%20Carrier.jpg?width=250&height=437&name=RR42%20Straddle%20Carrier.jpg)The Yokohama RR42 features carefully positioned, deep circumferential grooves that minimize vibration and reduce tread wear. Even after 80 percent of the compound has been worn, the grooves remain, maximizing tire life and performance. Between the circumferential grooves, smaller grooves dissipate heat, which allows the 480/95RR25 Yokohama RR42 to operate at higher speeds. Multi-layered, steel-belted construction enhances heat dissipation and traction, and an extra-sturdy hexagonal bead adds strength and stability. "Basically, the heat dissipation grooves add speed and the hexagonal bead allows longer hauls," says Bruce Besancon, Vice President—Off the Road Sales of Yokohama Off-Highway Tires America, Inc. "Thousands of straddle carriers are running 24/7, constantly cycling on hot asphalt, so it's an extremely tough application on tires. And I think we'll see more of the new straddle carrier models that have gone to six tires rather than eight, which means you have fewer tires to carry the same load. That adds to the challenge.
