[The East Coast Sawmill and Logging Equipment Expo](http://www.exporichmond.com/) in Richmond, Virginia, celebrates its 35th year of operation this year! Taking place on May 13th and 14th, this is one of the largest and best-attended events in the forest products industry. Also known as [Expo Richmond](http://www.exporichmond.com/), this event gives attendees the chance to watch demonstrations, see the equipment, meet suppliers and learn about service providers in the numerous forestry-related professions such as sawmilling, kiln drying, harvesting, biomass, trucking, pallet manufacturing and recycling, material handling and firewood production.

# 1 U.S. Farmer Feeds 155 People Worldwide
There’s been a lot of debate lately over one of the statistics we have used in few recent blog posts—that [1 U.S. farmer feeds 155 people worldwide](http://www.farmersfeedus.org/fun-farm-facts/), compared to 1 U.S. farmer feeding 25.8 people worldwide in 1960. Somewhat recently, Kim Reynolds, the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, made a similar claim when [she stated](http://www.thegazette.com/subject/news/government/fact-check/fact-check-reynolds-says-one-iowa-farmer-feeds-155-people-worldwide-20140524) at an event that “an Iowa farmer produces enough food to feed 155 people worldwide. Compare that to the Iowa farmer, who in 1970 produced enough food to feed 73 individuals." While these numbers are imperfect (we’ll get into that below), it’s a testament to the ability of U.S. farmers to keep pace with the world’s increased demand for food by improving the efficiency and productivity of their operations.

# Tires for Wet and Muddy Fields
Spring can be a trying time for farmers as they balance the urgency to get into the field with the need to wait until the field is actually ready to handle equipment. While the urge to get to the chores of tilling, spreading, spraying, and planting are strong, patience this time of year is preached, as farmers are liable to do more harm than good by getting into the field too soon. However, patience can be difficult in practice as the clock ticks away and farmers have to get their fields prepared and producing. To make matters worse, delays in the spring can negatively impact yields come harvest time.
